Government Will Re-Persecute Three Merrill Lynch Executives on Enron Related Charges

Federal prosecutors in Houston will re-persecute prosecute three Merrill Lynch executives on charges arising out of the so-called”Nigerian barge” deal, the Associated Press reported this week. The Fifth Circuit Court of appeals had reversed convictions on most of the counts against the three investment bankers. Lawyers for the defendants have apparently engaged in discussions with prosecutors on a possible plea deal, to no avail. The re-trial is scheduled to start next January 28th. The government’s Enron jihad thus persists, unabated.

The DOJ has been pretty busy lately, but in most cases, this seems well justified. (As in its case agasint the National Association of REALTORS®)

I recently worked at an electronics store where my boss told me deliberately to mislead sustomers, in order to sell more of some very bogus warranties.

Something really should be done. But I suppose it’s traditional in this country to throw out the baby with the bathwater.
